UKZN STAFF LOUNGE & CONFERENCE CENTRE

TASK:
UPGRADE UKZN STAFF LOUNGE (COMPLETED: 2019)

PROJECT INFO:

This project is located at UKZN Howard College Campus and consisted of the conversion of unused office spaces into a conference centre on the ground floor and a new staff lounge on the top floor of the student union building.

Conference Centre:

The design for the conference centre comprised of new internal modern finishes, a high tech custom designed boardroom table, a lounging area and a kitchenette to serve clients during meetings. Floor to ceiling glass stacking doors allows for the indoor meeting space to flow seamlessly to an outdoor space with stunning views of the harbour.

Staff Lounge:

The design ethos for the Staff Lounge on the top floor of the existing student union building was conceived from maintaining the 360° views which are stunning to behold. A simple cultivated palette of warm, bold finishes juxtaposed against the vast floor to ceiling glazing asserts a discerning relationship between indoors and outdoors. A kitchen and wraparound bar / display counter is the focal point to the design with the remainder of the space taken up by fixed seating around the entire glazed area, loose seating and a lounge area. Access to the balcony allows for outdoor socializing and is enhanced by astroturf and seating.
